    Ferry costs for tall vehicles.

I just talked to the Washington State Ferries representative and she said there is no “extra” charge for a car or van that is under 22 feet even if it is higher than 7’6”. It is charged the same as a vehicle.  They base the fees on the length of the vehicle….not the height.  They ask for the height of the vehicle when making a reservation so they can preserve some of the higher clearance spots on the ferry for folks like us.

I think a few years ago there WAS a surcharge for vehicles taller than 7’6” but no longer.

Seeking ferry partner for my kayak:  The height and length of my pickup with its canopy and a kayak on top, and four feet of extended length, places me into an ultra expensive price range for riding the ferry to Lopez island.  I am hoping there is someone in the group that would be able and willing to carry a second kayak (mine) across on the ferry crossing.  Reward offered!

There are 2 different shower places. 1 across from grocery store in main downtown Park and the other at the Island Marine Center Inc. Photo are from the Marine Center store

Bruce, I'll check on the shower cost and let everyone know closer to the event date.  I presume they have timers.  There is a cost, I believe,  although I have vague memories of it being by donation at one point.  Good luck with your abs!

    Showers!

Do the showers have a timer, operated by quarters? This is not a big deal, but the fading-away of coin-op devices has caused me to neglect my car’s change drawer - replacing the quarters with ones and fives (don’t tell any street people).

More importantly, I have 50-ish days to tone my abs! The 18 months of madness - and gym closures in particular - has left me with very slack abdominals; which, I found, devastates my kayaking balance and confidence!

Here's your reward for checking on the forum.  I just got this information from the Lopez Chamber of Commerce:  The [downtown public] showers are now operational and should be functioning for all of September.

    Hello Lopez Island event registrants,

I’ve created this forum on the OOPS website to discuss all things related to the Lopez Island event.  You can use this to seek a carpool or ferry partner, share information you think the group would like to know, or ask questions the group might answer.  Your staff (Dave Smith & I) remain ready to answer individual questions you may have about the event or trips.  BE SURE TO SUBSCRIBE TO THIS TOPIC.
