Narrative::
On this paddle, we will play in the waves at Cascade Head and paddle to Hart's and back.
This is an ocean paddle. Each paddler is responsible for evaluating the conditions and deciding whether to paddle. Conditions and plans may change up to the time of launch. Participants should be comfortable entering and exiting a surf zone.
We will meet at 9:00am at Knight Park in Otis, OR (45°02'26.4"N 123°59'36.6"W) and launch at 9:45am.
We will start by paddling to the mouth of the Salmon River. Next, we will play in the waves near the mouth for about half an hour to assess the conditions.
At this point, we will make the decision as a group whether to paddle through the surf to Hart's Cove (45°04'31.1"N 124°00'25.6"W) and back (approximately 5 miles round trip). The backup plan is to continue to play in the waves at the river mouth. Afterward, paddlers can practice rescues if interested. We plan to be off the water by 1:45pm at the latest.
Total distance: 8 miles
Note: There is a slight ebb on Saturday
NOAA predicts: High 10:05 AM, 4.70ft, Low 2:26 PM, 3.20ft (Exchange 1.5 ft)
WillyWeather predicts: High 10:18 AM 4.7 ft, Low 2:25, 3.9ft (Exchange 0.8 ft)
Due to the small exchange, I do not think it will generate enough current to cause an issue, but we will monitor the conditions in person.
