Full Name::
Shari Bandes
Narrative::
Come join Shari Bandes and Steve Blackwood for Shari’s third mentored paddle. We will start and end at Dalton Point, crossing the mighty Columbia River to view the scenic Cape Horn, where we can take a break before our return.
Cape Horn is a massive basalt cliff outcrop located on the Washington side of the Columbia River rising up to 2500 feet, with seasonal waterfalls into the Columbia River.
Right now, the forecast is looking good with estimated winds of 2-5 MPH and moderate temperatures, though this area can get unexpectedly windy at times. While it’s not required, if you own a towline and know how to safely use one, please bring it.
If the conditions do not look good for the crossing, we have an option to paddle around Sand Island instead of crossing the Columbia.
Dalton Point is a free day-use site with a wide, two-lane concrete boat ramp providing direct access to the Columbia River. There is free on-site parking and restrooms are available.
NOTE: The Dalton Point exit (Exit 29) is only accessed heading west on I-84. Therefore, if you are traveling from the west, you must first travel past Dalton Point until you can exit and turn back west on I-84.
