Narrative::
Exploration of Tongue Point and the Astoria waterfront. We will launch from the ramp at John Day County Park and paddle around Tongue Point to then explore the Astoria area. We will turn around somewhere near (before or after) the bridge across the river. On the way back, I hope to get some playful conditions with the wind against the outgoing current at Tongue Point. We may see steeper waves and/or current rips and eddylines to play on.
This is an L3-L4 paddle, because of the expected (hoped for) conditions around Tongue Point and the distance (around 15nm). Please be prepared with tow belt, VHF and good bracing skills. Also, I'm not sure about landing opportunities along the Astoria waterfront, so we could be in the boats for up to 2 hours at a time.
