Narrative::
On this paddle, we will play in the waves at Cascade Head, and, conditions permitting, will paddle to the two arches and back.
This is an ocean paddle. Each paddler is responsible for evaluating the conditions and deciding whether to paddle. Conditions and plans may change up to the time of launch. Participants should be comfortable entering and exiting a surf zone
We will meet at 9:00am at Knight Park in Otis, OR (45°02'26.4"N 123°59'36.6"W) and launch at 9:45am.
We will start by paddling to the mouth of the Salmon River, arriving near low tide (low -.75ft @ 10:10am). Next, we will play in the waves near the mouth for about half an hour to assess the conditions.
At this point, we will land on the beach and make the decision as a group whether to paddle through the surf to the arches (45°03'41.5"N 124°01'04.9"W) and back (approximately 3 miles round trip). The backup plan is to continue to play in the waves at the river mouth. Afterward, paddlers can practice rescues if interested. We plan to be off the water by 1:45pm at the latest.
Total distance: 3-6 miles, depending on whether we paddle to the arches
