Full Name::
Brenda C Brewer
Narrative::
Sechelt Inlet is a long, narrow, and deep fjord, running North from Porpoise Bay up about 18 miles to where it veers sharply southwest and empties into the Georgia Strait - the main body of water between the mainland and Vancouver Island. The fjord lies within the Sechelt Inlets Marine Park, and runs alongside Mt. Richardson Provincial Park. The area is ruggedly beautiful and home to a wide range of wildlife.
We will drive North from the campground a few miles to Lamb’s Brook Park, then launch and head North for about 4 nautical miles, stopping for a bio break along the way. We will take a lunch break around 9-mile beach (or 9-mile point), and head back. We will have a current assist on the way up, and the latter part of the way back.
It is important to get an early start, to try and avoid some of the worst of the afternoon winds from the South - they often get up to 12-15+ mph, which can make paddling back a real slog. We will meet at the park entrance at 7:45 am, leave by 7:50 am, and carpool up about 15” (4-5 miles) to our launch site in Lamb’s Brook Park, by Pedals & Paddles kayak shop. Bring your hat, sunscreen, plenty of water, and a nice lunch/snack. Weather info will be updated closer to the paddle date.

The only current measurements per DeepZoom are between 10-16 nautical miles North of our paddle, where Sechelt Inlet joins a bay, which in turn joins the Strait of Georgia - currents there are quite high, but by the time they get down to the Southern end of Sechelt Inlet, where we will be camping and paddling, the currents are far less.

Rating Comments::
Overall L-2. Winds may hit L-3 briefly. Sechelt Inlet is known for strong southerly afternoon winds. I’ve seen as high as 15+ mph posted, which could make paddling back a real slog. Please be sure you’re comfortable paddling in these conditions.
