Full Name::
Lori V Stole
Narrative::
Join me in exploring the Government Island State Recreation Area. We’ll launch into the Columbia River from Broughton Beach. From there we’ll head east past Portland International Airport, following the south side of the island to its east end. We’ll pick a route around the wing dam and proceed on to Chinook Landing. We’ll return along the north side of Government Island. Break and lunch stops will be taken as suits the group.
Meet at Broughton Beach.
There are bathrooms at Broughton Beach and along the island perimeter.
The forecast for Saturday shows sun. Of course forecasts can always change.
Little wind is forecast: It should be in the L1 range but if the forecast increases I still plan to go.
There will be some tidal assist. High tide is mid-day.
Distance: Be prepared for a fairly long distance: This is a 14.8 nm (17 statue mile) trip. Paddlers should be able to maintain a 3 knot flatwater pace.
Arrive in time to be launch-ready for a 9:45 shoretalk.
Hardcore long boats with perimeter lines are needed, at least 14’.
Water is still cold so please wear drysuits.
