Full Name::
Dennis Pennell
Narrative::
This is essentially the same as the trip I did on Jan 27, 2026.
Join me on Tuesday Feb 24 for a winter paddle out of Rogers Landing in Newberg. We will go upriver in the back-channel side of Ash Island, with the intent to reach the mouth of the Yamhill before crossing to the east side of the river for a lunch stop.
With the leaves off the trees, we should get a good view of the heron nests, and maybe some herons also. There are usually ducks, various raptors, Kingfishers, and small birds in abundance.
Air temps should be about 40 when we launch and soaring into the mid-40s by mid-afternoon. Water temperatures will be in the low 40s. You might consider bringing a hot beverage or soup for the lunch stop in case you get a little cool during the break.
Last I checked there is a $3 parking fee payable via Mastercard or Visa at the parking lot.
Please arrive at whatever time you need to be ready for a safety talk at 10:15 followed immediately by launching.
