TO Candidate On-Water Training

Welcome TO Candidates - As a result of thunderstorms  on May 16th, we will have On-Water Training on Sunday May 17 only.

Please refer to your Google Folder for detailed information about equipment, activities, and expectations for the weekend.

Details for Sunday, May 17 (8:30-4:30) - Reed Island  

We will meet at 8:30 am at the Washougal Waterfront Park (just east of the Port of Camas/Washougal).  Address: 56 S 1st St, Washougal, WA 98671.  Parking is limited, so plan to arrive early.  The launch site is a long carry.  Please bring wheels if you have them to trolly your boat to the water.  Bathrooms are available.  Weather forecast: Sunday, partly cloudy,  air temperature 50-63 degrees, wind 7-9 kts.  Water temp 54 degrees - wear a drysuit with appropriate base layers for being in the water for rescues.  9:00 am - pre-trip safety talk (including swim testing gear) and navigation talk both presented by candidates. Launch at 9:30 am. We'll paddle up to Reed Island, cross the Columbia over to the Oregon shore and return back to Washougal Waterfront Park, by 4:30 pm for debrief.

Drysuits, sprayskirts, towbelts, and helmets are required. Of course bring the usual 10 Essentials - including extra food, extra water, and extra insulation.
