Activity Title:: One-Way Willamette paddle: Wheatland Ferry to Newberg
Date of Activity:: 1/21/2026
Narrative:: Join Jerry and me for this one-way paddle on the Willamette River from the Wheatland Ferry to Rogers Landing in Newberg. This section of river is the border between Yamhill and Marion Counties. Winter is a great time to paddle the river because we usually have it to ourselves.

This is a long trip, 19 nm (21.9 mi), but there is river current to assist. I expect it will average about 1 kt of current, but could be several knots more in narrower places. I have not paddled the section upstream of San Salvador boat ramp so it’s an exploratory trip.

One-way trip = car shuttle included. I’ll work the shuttle details out with participants ahead of time. I expect we’ll meet at Rogers Landing at 8am, leave some cars there, and take as many vehicles as needed to carry all boats to the put-in at Willamette boat launch.

It is winter. Drysuits are required with lots of warm layers underneath.
Bring your lunch, consider bringing a hot beverage, and all the usual paddle stuff.
Bring a towline if you have it.

It looks like it should be another nice day with little wind, but of course conditions can change, so no weather promises until we’re done.

Put in: Willamette Boat Launch in Willamette Mission State Park,  located just downstream of the Wheatland Ferry.

Take out: Rogers Landing County Park, Newberg, Intersection of River St and 16th

Meet 8am at Rogers Landing. I’m hoping we can be ready to launch from Willamette Boat Launch by 9:45.
