Full Name:
Ed Johnson
Narrative:
Circumnavigate Reed Island (~9 mi). Put in at the new Washougal Waterfront Park kayak Launch; be on the water at 10am. Paddle upstream with the rising tide. We’ll pass Cottonwood Beach on our left (N) then enter the channel between Reed Island State Park and Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge. As we round the east end of Reed Island and into the main channel of the Columbia River there are places, we can come ashore for breaks and lunch. The tide will shift in our favor as we paddle back along the south shoreline of Reed Island. This is a Level 2 trip due to the distance, and potential for wind greater than 7kt. Wet exit certification required. The water temperature will be mid 70s deg F. Be sure to have adequate insulation. Air temperature forecast 60L -85H deg F. Bring food and water. Extra & spare set of clothing, in dry bags. There are restrooms at the launch site; kayak wheels are recommended but not required; parking is free.
