Full Name:
Christine Mayou
Narrative:
We’ll paddle round-trip from West Linn’s Willamette Park, heading upstream to “the Narrows” and then on to the far (south) end of Willow Island. Total of 8 miles. The current will be mild in the back channels and the main channel, with a gage height of about 55 ft.
This is one of the prettiest sections of the Willamette in the metro area. This will be a relaxed pace paddle so that we can enjoy the scenery.
We’ll poke around the various passages as the water height allows and get out of our boats for a snack/lunch break at Willow Island before heading back to Willamette Park.
PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY: We'll plan to launch from Bernert Boat Launch (yes, where the power boats launch). Bring wheels if you have them. Stage your boat on the grass at the top of the boat launch area and we’ll coordinate a launch from there. Please do not put your boats on the concrete boat launch until we’re all ready. We may insist that participants do a DOCK launch. Do NOT park in the trailer spaces unless you have a trailer. Use these options for free parking: 1) across the street in the little day-use area 2) to the west in the grassy parking lot. or 3) you may be one of the lucky few to snag a single-car spot in the main parking lot. Bathrooms are available. I will send a detailed map which will help explain this via email prior to the trip.
Please arrive by 9:30 and be water-ready at 10:15 a.m. with your boat on the grass near the docks. Water temperature is likely to reach 60F. Air temperature will be in the 70s. No immersion wear is required if the water temperature is above 60 degrees. Participants should check their email the day before the trip for any changes to this. Paddlers should expect to stay with the pod.
Canoes with flotation and kayaks 12’ and longer are welcome. No inflatables, please.
