Full Name: Lori Stole
Narrative: Start the first weekend of 2025 off with a great paddle trip!
Join me for this winter paddle trip from Scappoose Bay and beyond, into the Columbia River to explore islands and a lighthouse. We’ll put in at the Scappoose Bay Marina. From there we’ll head NE and out of the bay into the Multnomah Channel. A left turn here takes us downstream to the Columbia River. We’ll then paddle around the north end of Sauvie Island, following the shoreline to the Warrior Rock lighthouse. Next we’ll head downstream to the south tip of Sand Island Marine Park. From here we’ll cross over (about 1/3 mi) and go around the islands on the other side of the Columbia, then return to the east side of Sand Island. We’ll finish our counterclockwise circumnavigation of Sand Island then return to our starting point at Scappoose Bay Marina.
There are various options for breaks/lunch stops – group needs will determine which we use.

I've paddled much of this route before, but have not directly been to the lighthouse or explored the islands across from Sand Island. I'm looking forward to this route!

Distance: 12 nm (13.8 miles). This trip is somewhat long so consider whether it is the trip for you.

Forecasts at the moment indicate only light winds and some rain.

This is a winter trip. Drysuits are required, with plenty of thermal layers. Bring lunch and all the usual cold weather gear.

Wet exit certification and spray skirts are required, and must be worn at all times.
