Kent Slawson
Narrative:
Let's mix up the weekend with a paddle and hike. For this trip I propose to cross Trincomali Channel from Fernwood Point Beach to the southern end of Wallace Island, and then on to Retreat Cove on Galiano Island, a total distance of 2.3NM. At Retreat Cove we will secure our boats and trade out neoprene booties for hiking boots, and a daypack with lunch. Depending on group preference, we will pick from two hiking options: First, a loop hike to Pebble Beach on the east side of Galiano overlooking the Strait of Georgia. This hike is just over 4 miles with 650ft of elevation gain. A second option is an out and back hike up Bodega Ridge, a slighter longer hike at 5-6miles and 800ft of elevation. This trail is said to offer some nice views of the Gulf Islands looking east at several hundred feet of elevation. Apparently there is some exposure at points on this trail - something to consider for your comfort level (see All Trails App). Back at the boats we will gear up and return to our put-in, again via Wallace Island. I'm estimating a 5-6hr trip with plenty of time to get back to camp and start happy hour. :)
