Activity Title: Cedar Oak to Milwaukie Boat Ramp L2
Date of Activity: 3/23/2024
Narrative: The weather is getting nicer. The river is getting lower. Easier paddling. Putting in at Cedar Oak. We will travel north & downstream with an outgoing tide. Destination is Milwaukie Boat Ramp. We will have any easy ride for the first half of our trip. For about 5 miles, to our lunch spot a Milwaukie boat ramp. There are facilities here, at the boat ramp. If we so choose to, we can stop at Elk Rock Island, before lunch, Or make this our lunch spot. Elk Rock Island is very close to the boat ramp. After lunch we shall procee south & back upstream, back to Cedar oak. On the way back, the tide will be slowing the river down for us. We will not be paddling back against the full force of the river.
Dry suit shall be required. This is a Level 2 trip. Wet exit certification is required. Spray skirts must be worn at all times. Neoprene gloves and hood shall be required gear to have with you. (I have spares of both) The weather is getting really nice, but the water is still very cold. The weather could easily change, just be ready for it. It is highly encouraged for you to wet test your dry suit. Also, to self-asses if you have enough insulation under your dry suit. The water will be extremely cold. Water temperature will be about 50 deg F (46.5 deg F at time of writing trip proposal). Be sure to have adequate layers of insulation. Air temperature forecast 40 to 55 deg F (est. at time of writing trip proposal). Bring a lunch & consider a thermos with something hot. Extra & spare set of clothing, in dry bags.
