Registration

  • Active club members, including kayaking professional and lifetime. Provisional acceptance, pending approval by the trip organizer if this is a paddle.

This trip is limited to members.  To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group if you intend to wear a spray skirt.  We require that all participants on Level 2 and above paddles wear a spray skirt, are certified in wet exits, and able to assist in their own rescue. Level 1 paddles can be done without wet exit certification, but only if the paddler does NOT wear a spray skirt. Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment.  If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.

If you register for this event and find that you need to cancel please notify the trip organizer and cancel through the website. Members on the waitlist cannot be added to the roster or notified they are now eligible to attend unless your registration is removed from the trip. To cancel please go to the event registration page on the website and click on "Already Registered". A page will open that will allow you to cancel.

Estacada Lake Paddle. Put in at Milo McIver State Park, Estacada Lake boat ramp. Paddle up the Clackamas River. Pass under the Hwy 211 bridge. At this point the river narrows and becomes a wonderful small canyon. This area becomes a beautiful private & peaceful place. Also, at this point the river begins to narrow, & pick up velocity. Our intention is to travel up to Faraday Dam, as far as the current will safely allow. At this time the river is significantly dropping in flow rate. The weather forecast for the next few days is no rain. There is a high probability that the river flow rate will be close to 2000 CFPS on Saturday. Potentially we could get fairly close to Faraday Dam. However, we will only travel as far as the current will safely allow. Our intension is to limit the current to 2.5 knots. At this point we will turn around and seek out a lunch location. There are a couple of rocky location, upstream of the 211 bridge. I will bring two long lengths of tubular webbing & slings. We will anchor our boats at one of these rocky points. There is room to get out. However, not room to pull all of our boats out. After lunch we will paddle pack to our put in location.
Dry suit shall be required. This is a Level 2 trip. Wet exit certification is required. Spray skirts must be worn at all times. Neoprene gloves and hood shall be required gear to have with you. It is highly recommended that you wear a hood & gloves. It is highly encouraged for you to wet test your dry suit. Also, to self-asses if you have enough insulation under your dry suit. The water will be extremely cold. Water temperature is 40 deg F. Be sure to have adequate layers of insulation. Weather for Saturday is rain. Air temperature forecast 44 to 49 deg F. Bring a lunch & consider a thermos with something hot. Extra & spare set of clothing, in dry bags. Be prepared so that we can have maximum fun.
