Rescue Rodeo - Session 2. L2

  Calling all Oops paddlers!

  This first-ever Oops Resue Rodeo is for Oops member paddlers who are:

  • Wet-exit certified
  • Able to do the prerequisite rescue skills listed below for the Session they choose

  And who would like to: 

  • Refine their rescue skills
  • Become more rescue-competent AND have fun practicing real scenarios.
    
    

  Please note – we will review but are not teaching how to perform these rescues. You should come in with the core knowledge. This event provides an opportunity to exercise your decision-making and your ability to perform these rescues if and when needed.

   

  Overview of the day:

  • 9am – noon        Session 1 – for less-experienced paddlers and those preferring milder conditions

  Prerequisite skills: Both sides of tee rescue (rescuer/swimmer), plus paddle float self-rescue

• • Noon – 1:30       Lunch, for both sessions combined
    
    
  • 1:30 – 4:30         Session 2 – for more-experienced paddlers who like bigger conditions (wind, waves, current)
• Prerequisite skills: Same as session 1, plus familiarity with scoop rescue is a plus
•  
• • 4:30 – 5:00         Closing thoughts on the beach with everyone, pack-up

   

Each session will proceed through a variety of incident scenario challenges relevant to the potential paddle conditions being focused on for that session.

Each scenario will begin with a demonstration of relevant skills, followed by the group activity and concluding with a debrief/ critique/ assessment of what worked: why and why not.

Each session will conclude with some fun games.

Registration Note: INITIALLY SIGN UP FOR ONLY ONE SESSION. Close to the event date if there are empty spots, we’ll announce the option to register for a 2^nd session.
