This short trip on the southern end of Hagg Lake will include an extended break at the Sain Creek covered pavilion. Here we will sample a selection of locally produced freeze dried entries and deserts. Attendees are encouraged to bring along their favorite camp stove, fuel and a small pot to boil water. The meal preparation will include a chance to compare our portable stoves. Your Trip Organizer, Marty, will bring a wood fuel, alcohol fuel and stoves for testing. Each of you will be provided materials and instructions to fabricate a rehydrating pouch. This will be used for the preparation of our meal packets. Each participant is asked to provide their own plate and eating utensils.

The menu will include a few of my favorite Mountain House meals for sharing. Beef Stroganoff, Vegetarian Chorizo and Eggs, Pasta, and dehydrated ice cream sandwiches. The meals will be served pot luck. In keeping with the local sourcing I will provide a selection of loose teas and steeping tea bags and insulted cups for us to sample.

Trip details:

We will meet at the parking lot of Ramp A on the southeast side of Hagg Lake at 9:00 am allowing plenty of time for unloading our kayaks, donning our drysuits and completing the pre trip safety discussion. Paddling will be clockwise skirting the shoreline until reaching the Sain Creek Covered Pavilion, this is a short 3 mile paddle. Pouch fabrication, stove testing and meal preparation and lunch will be from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. After packing up our boats and launching there is a short paddle north to Lot C on the west side of the lake. Here we will cross the lake heading east with just over 1/2 mile crossing back to the initial launch at Ramp A. The total distance is expected to be just over 4 1/2 miles.

There is a parking fee: $7 daily pass ($5 for seniors 55+ and veterans).
Parking passes are available at the park entrance fee booth and at C-Ramp (cash and card).

Discount parking passes can be purchased at the Park Office, Monday - Friday, 8 am - 4:30 pm (cash and card), or at Lake Stop Store 8015 SW Old Highway 47, Gaston, OR 97119 (card only).
