Why knot combine an 8 mile paddle with a hands-on demonstration/practice testing 10 common knots used in boating and camping.

I will provide each participant with cordage and webbing to practice knots, hitches, bends, and lashings. We will discuss pros and cons of tethering, serrations, folding versus fixed blade. You will become familiar with paracord, dyneema, spectra, synthetic, lashing and braided rope. My presentation will include rescue, camping and EDC knives. I will bring a varied selection of knives having different blade shapes, cutting edges, grinds, handle material and materials of construction. You will have an opportunity to test your personal kayaking knives on hardware and materials encountered in the kayaking/camping environment.I will provide multiple tools for sharpening any blades that require maintenance.

We will meet at the Scappoose Bay Marina boat ramp at 09:00 am. Please plan to be water ready by 10:00 am. Following the safety briefing, we will head N to St. Helens hugging the shoreline and finally crossing over to the island near the island’s North dock. The instruction will coincide with our extended lunch break. Island time 12:00 to 13:30. We will be back on the water by 13:30 and arriving at the Marina at 16:00
