Registration

  • Active club members, including kayaking professional and lifetime. Provisional acceptance, pending approval by the trip organizer if this is a paddle.

Registration is closed

This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification (except for level 1 trips when the paddler is not using a spray skirt....if the paddler is wearing a spray skirt on a level 1 paddle, the Wet Exit Certification is REQUIRED).  To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group if you intend to wear a spray skirt.  Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment.  If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.

Please note, not following the cancellation procedures may affect your ability to register for future trips and events.

Cancellations

Already on the Roster

If you register for this event and find that you are unable to attend please cancel on the website or the WA mobile app. Members on the waitlist cannot be added to the roster or notified they are now eligible to attend unless your registration is removed from the trip. To cancel, go to the event registration page on the website and click on "Already Registered". A page will open that will allow you to cancel. If you are using the WA mobile app, select the three bars in the upper left hand corner and choose “Tickets” from the drop down menu. Locate the trip and select “CANCEL” located next to “Member Registration”. It would also be helpful if you notified the primary organizer of your cancellation via text, phone or email.

Notifying the Primary Organizer

The primary organizer’s name can be found in the Narrative of the trip on the website. To e-mail the organizer directly, log into your OOPS account, select "Member Directory" under "Membership," search for the name of the organizer, click on their name, and press the "Send Message" button. If you have their phone number you can text them as well.

Cancelling off the Waitlist

OOPS members who sign-up for a trip that is full will typically be automatically entered onto a waitlist. Unfortunately, our software doesn’t allow members to cancel off the waitlist from the website or the WA mobile app. If you are on the waitlist for a trip and decide you don’t want to be considered for the roster, please cancel by emailing or texting the Trips Director at OOPS Trips (trips@oopskayak.org) and the primary trip organizer. This will ensure that others who joined the waitlist after you are given more notice should space on the paddle become available.

Narrative: A relaxed paddle on the close-in Tualatin on an inviting early winter day --
what a great way to close out the year and work off some of those holiday
helpings! We'll paddle the Tualatin River, a beautiful little gem in our
own backyard -- easy to paddle, easy to get to, and wonderfully scenic and
natural for so much of it. Many of my first paddles were on the Tualatin,
and it's still a go to destination for me. Ask me about the rabbit.

Please join MNR and me on my 3rd mentored TO-in-training trip as we take a
leisurely paddle past some lovely spots along the Tualatin River -- we'll
start at the Tualatin Community Park boat ramp near the railroad trestle and
wind our way upriver past Fanno Creek, a pedestrian bridge, a railroad
bridge, over some riffles, past Cook Park, and on to Jurgens Park. Then
we'll head back down river, going *past* the put-in, past the SW Boones
Ferry bridge, turn around at the I-5 bridge, and return to the put-in.
We'll take breaks as needed along the way -- Jurgens Park dock, Cook Park
boat ramp or dock, and the put-in all work well.

This trip is geared as a Goldilocks outing for everyone, especially
entry-level paddlers -- not too long, not too distant, not too hard, not too
fast -- "just right" -- so we can all relax and enjoy the scenery.

We expect better-than-usual weather conditions here for this time of year --
"A slight chance of showers before 10am. Partly sunny, with a high near 51."
wind: 3 mph, sky cover: 52%, precipitation potential: 11% -- with water in
the mid 40s. This part of the Tualatin is winding and sheltered, so wind
shouldn't be an issue at all.

Note that the water is **COLD**, and we dress for water not air temperature
-- you really need a drysuit with good insulation underneath -- if you get
too warm, you can always bow-dip, soak your hat, or splash yourself.

Hazards should be very few, mostly potential debris and some shallow water
near Fanno Creek. We're above the Oswego Dam, so tides are not an issue.

There is plenty of free parking at Tualatin Community Park, with good
restrooms onsite.

We follow the OOPS pod protocol, so please plan to stay with the group.
Only for hard-shell Kayaks 12 feet or longer. This is an easy Level 1 trip
-- wet exit certification is *not* required (unless you wear a spray skirt).
Launch is at 10 AM, with the safety talk at 9:50 AM.
