Lake Billy Chinook at Cove Palisades State Park

May 16-19, 2024

General registration will open Thursday, February 15th at 9:30 pm

Our first annual OOPS Event in 2024 will be at the stunning Lake Billy Chinook, May 16-19, Thursday-Sunday (3 nights), paddling Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Paddles are mostly level 2. We’ll be based at the Crooked River Campground in Cove Palisades State Park with its lovely views of Cascade peaks and very nice amenities - electricity, water, and bathrooms with free hot showers.

The Lake is a unique feature of Oregon's geology, as it is in a steep canyon formed at the confluence of the Crooked River, the Metolius River, and the Deschutes River. It is known as a nesting and gathering place for bald eagles, and some locations on the lake offer stunning views of Mt. Jefferson to the west. Additional trips are often planned for neighboring Lake Simtustus.

Social Plans are shaping up nicely thanks to Kate:

- Please bring appetizers to share at our Thursday evening meeting.

- Friday at 3 pm Ranger Erin Bennett will walk and talk us through the 1/4 mile Wetland Nature Trail Loop, an ongoing wetland restoration project.

- Our potluck will be at 5:00 pm.

- Saturday afternoon we'll offer a hike on the Tam-a-Lau Trail, with its spectacular views from the rim above camp.
