Registration

  • Active club members, including kayaking professional and lifetime. Provisional acceptance, pending approval by the trip organizer if this is a paddle.

This trip is for the Sunshine Coast Event. Registration will be available to Sunshine Coast Event registered members only on the night before the trip. Signup will be at the event headquarters campsite.

This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification (except for level 1 trips when the paddler is not using a spray skirt....if the paddler is wearing a spray skirt on a level 1 paddle, the Wet Exit Certification is REQUIRED).  To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group if you intend to wear a spray skirt.  Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment.  If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.

Narrative:  The Sechelt Inlet is a prime paddling destination. The waters are fairly calm thanks to the geography of the landscape, so you’re unlikely to encounter big waves, as may be possible in the open ocean. Wildlife watchers will be treated to sightings of bald eagles, seals and porpoises, along with a variety of marine life such as starfish and crabs. The deep blue sea gives way to tree lined mountains where no roads go, making for a true back country experience in the wilderness.
We will meet at Tillicum Bay Marina at 8:30, be on the water by 9:00 at Tillicum Bay, then follow the coast north, stopping as desired at Mt Richardson Provincial Park beaches. We’ll go at least to the First Nations petroglyphs at Nine Mile Beach Returning along the same route back to the take-out.
