This trip is for the Sunshine Coast Event. Registration will be available to Sunshine Coast Event registered members only on the night before the trip. Signup will be at the event headquarters campsite.
This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification (except for level 1 trips when the paddler is not using a spray skirt....if the paddler is wearing a spray skirt on a level 1 paddle, the Wet Exit Certification is REQUIRED). To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group if you intend to wear a spray skirt. Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment. If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.
Narrative: Porpoise Bay is a hop, skip, and jump from Bayside campground and is the gateway to the undeveloped shores of Sechelt Inlet. For paddlers looking for a short drive to beautiful shorelines, this is a low-impact paddle. We'll drive to Porpoise Bay, park in the public parking area, then launch from the beach. A mild tide will be going out and winds (might) be coming in, so our exact route will take these conditions into account. If weather is favorable, we will cross to Poise Island, then to the west shore of Sechelt Inlet. Paddling north, we'll reach Snake Bay in about two miles, then head north. Our furthest destination will be Piper Point, at which point we will either turn around and head south and retrace our route, or cross to the east shore at Lamb Bay and head south. There are lots of bail out points along the way and lots of opportunities for truncating the paddle to account for weather. We'll have frequent breaks and a beautiful lunch spot (my guarantee). We will depart Bayside at 8:30 and be on-the-water soon after 9:00am. Total time on the water will be four or five hours, depending on how much we dilly-dally along the way.
