Registration

  • Active club members, including kayaking professional and lifetime. Provisional acceptance, pending approval by the trip organizer if this is a paddle.

This trip is for the Cascade Lakes Event. Registration will be available to Cascade Lake Event registered members only on the night before the trip. Signup will be at the event headquarters campsite.

This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification (except for level 1 trips when the paddler is not using a spray skirt....if the paddler is wearing a spray skirt on a level 1 paddle, the Wet Exit Certification is REQUIRED).  To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group if you intend to wear a spray skirt.  Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment.  If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.

Narrative: Quoting Phil Jones in Canoe and Kayak Routes of NW Oregon (3rd ed.): Phil Jones 2007 edition: “Hosmer Lake has it all: clear water, narrow channels, open water, acres of lily pads and rushes, a contorted shape, outcrops of volcanic rock, abundant wildlife, huge fish visible from your boat, and grand mountain views”

USDA says: The lake is a hidden jewel of green and blue surrounded by dark green forest. Thickets of bulrush wands hide the most secretive wildlife and fish. At the north end, water drains into a porous rim of lava. The best way to experience this lake is by canoe, but a shoreline hike will still produce wondrous sights and sounds. Take your camera to capture the spectacular view of Mt. Bachelor.
Hosmer is a “fly fishing only” lake well known for its breath taking views of Mt. Bachelor, South Sisters, Broken top, wildlife viewing and the big Atlantic salmon, brook trout and rainbows that are quite visible in this shallow clear lake.

Short gravel drive off the main highway. Vault toilet; parking fee, bring a little cash.
