Registration

  • Active club members, including kayaking professional and lifetime. Provisional acceptance, pending approval by the trip organizer if this is a paddle.

Registration is closed

This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification (except for level 1 trips when the paddler is not using a spray skirt....if the paddler is wearing a spray skirt on a level 1 paddle, the Wet Exit Certification is REQUIRED).  To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group if you intend to wear a spray skirt.  Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment.  If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.

Cancellations

If you register for this event and find that you are unable to attend please cancel on the website. Members on the waitlist cannot be added to the roster or notified they are now eligible to attend unless your registration is removed from the trip.

To cancel, go to the event registration page on the website and click on "Already Registered". A page will open that will allow you to cancel. It would also be helpful if you notified the primary organizer of your cancellation via text, phone or email.

To e-mail the organizer directly, once you have the name of the organizer, log into your OOPS account, select "Member Directory" under "Membership," search for the name of the organizer, click on their name, and press the "Send Message" button.

OOPS members who sign-up for a trip that is full will typically be automatically entered onto a waitlist. Unfortunately, our software doesn’t allow members to cancel off the waitlist. If you are on the waitlist for a trip and decide you don’t want to be considered for the roster please cancel by emailing the Trips Director at OOPS Trips (trips@oopskayak.org).   This will ensure that others who joined the waitlist after you are given more notice should space on the paddle become available.

Narrative: Would you like to come along on a relaxed paddle where you have time to practice different strokes or take some photos? If so, please join Monte Johnston and me on Estacada Lake, a.k.a. River Mill Lake/Reservoir. Estacada Lake is generally protected from the wind, and the wind forecast for Estacada is lower than Portland. We’ll paddle round-trip on this narrow three-mile long reservoir that sits in a short canyon with several waterfalls and surrounded by Oregon greenery. We may see osprey, egrets, eagles, or even an otter.

We’ll head upriver at a normal pace, launching at 10:30, and hopefully we can get out at the end to stretch our legs. The current may be too swift to get to the gravel beach “around the bend.” Regardless, we’ll take a more leisurely trip back downstream, taking some time to practice paddling backwards, doing sweep and rudder strokes, or whatever appeals. Get out the camera and take some close-up shots of Mother Nature without worrying that you’ll be left behind. Time on the water will be somewhere between two-and-a-half and three hours, depending on how fast people paddle backwards and in circles. Bring a snack or lunch if you’d like. If we can’t get out of our boats at the end, we can take an in-the-boat break or skip the break and be back at the launch area around 1:30 p.m. The water is still cold. Shorty wetsuit is minimum immersion wear required. https://or.water.usgs.gov/clackamas/monitors/estacada_t_14.html

We’ll launch from Milo McGiver State Park UPPER Boat Launch: 24101 S Entrance Rd, Estacada, OR, 97023. State Park daily fee or use your annual pass. There is a vault toilet at the upper boat ramp. Follow signs to the Upper Boat launch, going past the campground and horse area. It might also be referred to as Estacada Lake on the signage.
