  • Active club members, including kayaking professional and lifetime. Provisional acceptance, pending approval by the trip organizer if this is a paddle.

Registration is closed

This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification (except for level 1 trips when the paddler is not using a spray skirt....if the paddler is wearing a spray skirt on a level 1 paddle, the Wet Exit Certification is REQUIRED).  To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group if you intend to wear a spray skirt.  Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment.  If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.

  • Cancellations

If you register for this event and find that you need to cancel please notify the trip organizer and cancel through the website. Members on the waitlist cannot be added to the roster or notified they are now eligible to attend unless your registration is removed from the trip. To cancel please go to the event registration page on the website and click on "Already Registered". A page will open that will allow you to cancel.

Narrative: We'll meet at Rogers Landing at 10 a.m. to launch by 10:30. Each car will need to buy and display a $3 launch ticket from the machine near the ramp. If you need more time to prep, please arrive early enough to be water-ready by 10:30. We'll try to peek into Chehalem Creek, about 1/4 mile from the launch, to see how much water is in there and how many trees block the way, then come back out and head upriver behind Ash Island. Our goal will be to get to the mouth of the Yamhill, about 4.6 miles from the boat ramp, and see if the beach on the Yamhill's south shoreline is uncovered enough to land for lunch. If not, we will probably cross to the east side of the Willamette where there is usually adequate beach to land for lunch. After lunch, we'll paddle back down the outside of Ash Island to take advantage of the small current assist and hopefully enjoy a view of some of the heron nesting in the trees on the east side and cross back to the launch. Water temperature is about 41 degrees, so a drysuit or a thick enough wetsuit to handle such cold water will be required. No boats shorter than 12 feet, please, and be ready and able to paddle about 4.7 miles against 1-2 mph current. Air temps should be 40-45 with 4-5 mph wind out of the south and chance of rain in single digits. Should be a pleasant day on the water!
