This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification (except for level 1 trips when the paddler is not using a spray skirt....if the paddler is wearing a spray skirt on a level 1 paddle, the Wet Exit Certification is REQUIRED). To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group if you intend to wear a spray skirt. Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment. If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.
If you register for this event and find that you need to cancel please notify the trip organizer and cancel through the website. Members on the waitlist cannot be added to the roster or notified they are now eligible to attend unless your registration is removed from the trip. To cancel please go to the event registration page on the website and click on "Already Registered". A page will open that will allow you to cancel.
Narrative: Hayden Island is a mix of heavy industrial and wilderness preserve. Let's spend a day seeing both shorelines. We'll start at Alder Creek Kayak (please sign their dock waiver) and launch from their dock. Paddling upstream on the back side, we'll go counter-clockwise around the eastern tip, then turn downstream. We'll stop for lunch at some interesting sand beach. At the western tip, we'll turn back upstream and back towards the dock. This is a relaxed paddle with lunch break, sand beaches, and hopefully some wildlife. We might have a bit of rain - or possibly some sun. In either case, it's predicted to be a delightful 50 degree air temperature. Wear a drysuit and bring something warm for lunch. We'll return to Alder Creek Kayak before 3pm.
