Navigation 101 and trip through the Willamette Narrows L2, 8-4-22

This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification (except for level 1 trips when the paddler is not using a spray skirt....if the paddler is wearing a spray skirt on a level 1 paddle, the Wet Exit Certification is REQUIRED).  To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group if you intend to wear a spray skirt.  Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment.  If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.

Narrative: Ease into the basics of navigation with hands-on exercises. You may take this class as a review if you’ve taken it earlier. The goal is to have fun while we learn! We'll work on chart preparation, tides, aids to navigation, and more. This 3-hour class will be held outdoors at Willamette Park in West Linn in the morning. After a picnic lunch break at the park, we’ll kayak to the Narrows (5 miles round-trip—allow 2 hours). This paddle trip is rated Level 2 due to possible wind and we will cross the river twice. The land-based class is beginning-level navigation. Please bring your own chair or blanket and a “desk,” if you choose not to set at the communal table. **Everyone will need to print some materials beforehand to bring to class.** I’ll email details to registrants prior to the class.
