This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification (except for level 1 trips when the paddler is not using a spray skirt....if the paddler is wearing a spray skirt on a level 1 paddle, the Wet Exit Certification is REQUIRED). To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group if you intend to wear a spray skirt. Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment. If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.
Full Name: Jay Nutt Activity Title: Lake Billy Chinook Event, Upper Metolius Arm of Lake Billy Chinook, L2 Date of Activity: 5/13/2022 Narrative: We will launch from the Perry South boat ramp and paddle up the Metolius Arm of Lake Billy Chinook to the beginning of whitewater, then return to Perry South boat ramp. Although no attempt will be made to ascend the river more than a short distance above the lake pool, we will paddle into the transition zone between lake and river, where currents stronger than 2 knots may be encountered. Paddlers entering this zone should have skills in negotiating moving water up to 4 knots and should bring their helmets. This trip will be 7+ miles and can be fairly vigorous with spring currents. The Perry South Campground is currently closed so it’s not clear whether the launch site will require the $5 fee (or NW Forest Pass) or whether the vault toilets and potable water will be available. Come prepared for neither.
