Registration

  • Active club members, including kayaking professional and lifetime. Provisional acceptance, pending approval by the trip organizer if this is a paddle"

Registration is closed
This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification (except for level 1 trips when the paddler is not using a spray skirt....if the paddler is wearing a spray skirt on a level 1 paddle, the Wet Exit Certification is REQUIRED).  To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group if you intend to wear a spray skirt.  Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment.  If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.

Activity Title: Rooster Rock to Cape Horn R.T. L2, 7-20-21
Date of Activity: 7/20/2021
Narrative: Please join me on a round-trip paddle from Rooster Rock State Park upriver alongside Sand Island and crossing the Columbia to Cape Horn. Total distance will be about 10-12 miles. We’ll head upriver against a very modest current and outgoing tide along the side of Sand Island, then cross the main channel of the Columbia (half-mile crossing). Tuesday is projected to be a light wind day, but if this changes, we may skip paddling to Cape Horn and stay on the Oregon side of the river to circumnavigate Sand Island instead.

Please arrive by 9:00 a.m. Be ready to launch at 9:30 a.m. My goal is to be off the water by 3:00 p.m., but no guarantees! Park at the far west end of the parking lot by the boat ramp. Restrooms available, but maybe only by the main entrance. State park permit or fee required. The water should be around 70 degrees; no immersion wear is required, but a layer of neoprene is recommended. This level two trip is suitable for hard shell boats 12 ft. and longer, please. We WILL cross the river in a tight formation. You will be asked to observe the Four Ps: Please Plan to be a Pod Participant! If you are a lone wolf, this is not the trip for you. Bring a lunch, water, hat, and whatever you else you need!
