This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification (except for level 1 trips when the paddler is not using a spray skirt....if the paddler is wearing a spray skirt on a level 1 paddle, the Wet Exit Certification is REQUIRED). To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group if you intend to wear a spray skirt. Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment. If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.
Full Name:david smith Email address: davlsmith@yahoo.com Activity Title: Elk Rock Island Paddle Date of Activity: 3/3/2021 Narrative: Join me for a paddle up the Willamette River from Willamette Park in Portland to Elk Rock Island in Milwaukie, a distance of about 3 miles. The island is connected to the Willamette's eastern shoreline by a "40 million year old land bridge." Sometimes that land bridge disappears under high water, and paddlers can circumnavigate the entire island. Either way, we can enjoy a brief respite on the island before heading back to our launch site. Since there will be an outgoing tide that day, we will encounter mild currents of 1-2 knots as we paddle upstream, but enjoy the assist on our way back downstream to our launch. There is a parking fee of $6 for all day. Restrooms are available.
