The Ikkatsu Project is actively involved in marine plastic research programs and beach cleanups in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. The data that is collected and the analysis that follows represent important steps in the process of understanding the problems posed by plastic debris as well as exploring its possible solutions.
Ken Campbell is the Ikkatsu Project’s Director, a long-time Northwest kayaker and author of a series of paddling guides and other publications. His kayaking resume includes a circumnavigation of Newfoundland, extended expeditions in Cook Inlet, the Santa Barbara Channel Islands and Vancouver Island.
From building boats out of marine debris to working with students in western Washington schools on microplastics testing programs, Ken is committed to using his love of the ocean and his years of paddling experience as a way to help expand awareness about the our treasured spots where we live and play and the threats they face.
