This trip is limited to members with a wet exit certification. To successfully register you will need to sign into your OOPS member account, and your account will need to be a member of the "Wet Exit Certified" group. Your acceptance is conditional on approval by the Organizer, who may contact you with questions about your skills and equipment. If the measured water temperature is different enough from that listed below to warrant a change in required immersion protection, the Organizer will contact all participants and the Trips Board member with the update at least a day before the trip.
Activity Title: Scappoose Bay to Warrior Point Tour Date of Activity: 10/27/2018 Narrative: Join me for a tour from Scappoose Bay to Warrior Point at the northernmost tip of Sauvie Island. We’ll head out of Scappoose Bay from the marina where the Next Adventure Paddling Center is located. We'll ride on an ebb tide to Multnomah Channel and then follow that to where it meets the Columbia River at Warrior Point. There’s a nice sandy beach facing the Columbia River just past the point where we’ll land to eat lunch and take in the scenery. If anyone is so inclined we can do some rescue practice or any other skills practice off the beach during the lunch break. After an unhurried lunch we’ll make our way back to the launch site with a bit of a current to work against but I don’t expect it to even reach .5 knots so it shouldn’t affect our progress very much. Total round trip distance is about 6.5 NM. Weather forecast as of 10/22 calls for overcast skies and very light winds. I expect to be back at the launch point by no later than 2:30 PM. There is a $3 parking fee. In the past I’ve seen deer while paddling the route between Scappoose Bay and Warrior Rock as well as numerous bird species. If you have binoculars you might want to bring them for checking out birds while we’re on the beach. Just be sure to protect them from immersion and from sinking.
