It has beautiful sandy beaches and otter and some spectacular homes along the shore for our viewing pleasure. I’m told that while most of the island is privately owned, the beaches are “mostly” owned by the State. Leaving from Hunter Bay on Lopez, we will cross over to the public beach on the south end of Decatur Island, and then take a spin or two around Trump Island before heading north, toward the light. (Forgive the editorial comment.). We’ll hug the shore to circumnavigate Decatur clockwise. We’ll stop as needed for breaks, and stop for lunch at James Island before returning along the south shore back to Hunter Bay, cutting through Lopez Pass around 3-4pm. The total distance is 14 miles, and we will be paddling against some currents and possibly wind, so you should have good stamina for this trip. It will be a long day on the water. Bring plenty of snacks and water and lunch.
