NOTE: Although part of the Trip Organizer Training/refresh program, this workshop should also be useful to any paddler looking to learn more about our sport.
While a strong forward stroke and effortless maneuvering are important skills to master, there are many additional skills in the toolbox of a well-rounded Pacific Northwest paddler. Please join us for a day of lectures and exercises to help you learn more about: planning a personal or OOPS trip, planning for the appropriate conditions, assessing risk, recognizing medical issues, avoiding legal issues, managing incidents or groups, being a good leader, and awareness of your environment while paddling .
Please read the OOPS Activity Policy before attending this workshop. Please bring your laptop computer, and a throw bag if you have one.
This workshop will happen in a classroom – there is no reason to bring a boat with you or dress for the water.
No food is allowed in the classroom – we will be eating lunch elsewhere (whether you bring or buy is up to you). A folding chair might be useful if the weather allows us to eat outside.
