General Membership Meeting-Kayak Speed Dating and Free Pizza

It’s August and time for the Second Annual Kayaker Speed Dating Meeting, also known as The Paddler Short Course Meeting.  Seemed like OOPSter’s really liked this format last year so we are doing it again with new speakers for this year.

6:00 -7:00  Social Hour: Eat,  Drink,  Make merry and Free Pizza! (GF salad option for interested folks)

7:00 - Break out to one of the Hall’s four corners where a local expert will provide a 15 minute riveting discourse on a subject about which you’ve always wanted to know more.  Then I will blow a whistle and you can move on to your second choice, then your third choice and finally, your absolute last choice at which you will be most pleasantly surprised.

1)  Somebody with a claim to expertise, from Next Adventure, will explain how to pack your boat and what to bring on a kayak camping trip.  Expect a handout to take home.

2)  Peter Carew will explain how to download & print NOAA charts AND how to download & print maps from CalTopo.  Mighty handy if your paddling on unfamiliar waters.  Expect reference materials to remind you later. 

3)  Derek Shaw from West Marine, a confessed radio geek, will explain the whys & wherefores of marine radio selection and use.  

4)  Mel Wishan, as skilled with a Craftsman box wrench as he is with a carbon paddle, will discuss the basics of E Bikes, his dryland passion.
